“Recycled” can mean anything from responsibly processed to shipped overseas and dumped. Here’s exactly what happens to a device after our van picks it up — the same process whether it’s one laptop or a 300-seat decommission.
Step 1: Serialised intake
Every device gets an asset tag at your door. Data-bearing devices (anything with storage) are sealed and tracked separately — that chain of custody is what makes the destruction certificate you receive later actually mean something.
Step 2: The data bench
Drives are either wiped to NIST 800-88 standard (verified, every sector) or physically shredded — your choice. Either way you get a serialised certificate per device. Nothing moves to the next step with data on it.
Step 3: Triage — reuse beats recycling
Working machines are refurbished: new SSD if needed, fresh OS, battery check. Fleet-grade devices earn you buyback credit; the rest are donated to Melbourne not-for-profits and families through our community partners. A reused laptop saves far more carbon than a recycled one.
Step 4: Material recovery
What can’t be reused is broken down by accredited Australian e-waste processors — metals, boards and batteries separated and recovered onshore. Nothing we collect goes to landfill, and nothing is exported as whole e-waste.
